At Verona from April 3 to 7 passion for wine and concreteness in business will take the stage at Vinitaly, the International Exposition of Wines and Distillates, the world’s largest fair dedicated to the sector and where commercial transactions occur in an elegant and glamorous atmosphere. While all the exhibiters at the 2007 edition have confi rmed their participation in the 42nd edition of Vinitaly, the 10th year of activity was begun, from India, by Vinitaly World Tour.
Vinitaly 2008 will present a new vintage, its 42nd, with a blend that combines in a sensitive way business requirements with those of the glamour side. It is a combination that is winning the appreciation of clients in countries throughout the world, including exhibitors, buyers and other professionals in the sector.
From April 3 to 7, the exposition in Verona, the world’s biggest fair dedicated to wine - it confi rmed its international leadership in 2007 whether because of the 38,000 foreign professionals out of a total of 145,000 participating; they came from 101 countries - or because of the initiatives of Vinitaly World Tour on the most interesting international markets: the United States, China, Japan, India and Russia. Whether in Italy or abroad, the partnership
between Veronafiere and Buonitalia is pleased at having succeeded in reaching its objectives. The latter is a company formed by the Italian Ministry for Agricultural and Forestry Policies (MIPAF) for the promotion and valorization
of the domestic agricultural industry. The list of exhibitors has already grown as long as in the last edition of Vinitaly in 2007. About 4,300 estates based in 32 countries displayed their wines or other products in a total area of 86,000 square meters (925,696 sq. ft.). The exhibition area was expanded in 2006 and 2007. Meanwhile, the fact that virtually the totality of exhibitors who participated in the fair in 2007 has confirmed their intention to return this year is a testimonial to the high degree of satisfaction, virtually 100%. With this event. The fair provides strong support for the strategic decisions of Italian companies.The year 2008 is expected to be an important period for wine due to the introduction of the new Common Market Organization in this sector. The Vinitaly organization welcomed the first official visit to Italy of the European Commissioner for Agriculture, Mariann Fischer Boel, who presented the guidelines for the CMO in 2006. Her acknowledgment indicated that by now the fair is the ideal place for analysis and development of economic and strategic policies in the sector. “Vinitaly has secured world leadership in the field,” said Giovanni Mantovani, general manager of VeronaFiere,” since for more than 40 years it has supported wine-making companies by providing increasingly innovative tools and services in such sectors as training, marketing and business that ensure detailed analysis of the market and effective contacts with buyers, caterers, wine stores and bars, chefs, opinion leaders and journalists. The exhibition held every year in April in Verona and the Vinitaly World Tour, since its first edition in 1998 in Shanghai, China (at the time the only country involved), now present an increasingly impressive calendar on emerging and most promising markets and other highly competitive areas.”
In order to promote the internationalization of Italian winemaking companies, Vinitaly has been compiling for many years now a series of “focus reports” on the main international and emerging markets. Integrated Veronafiere Sistema recognized by the EU. From 2008 to 2010, Veronafiere will be the actuator of EU financing of 4 million euros for the promotion of premium wines in China, India and Russia, and with Unione Italiani Vini (UIV) as protagonist. The European Union thereby acknowledges the quality, innovation and organization achieved in the initiatives organized by VeronaFiere as an asset going far beyond national spheres. The meeting of supply and demand is also promoted by on-line matching through the site www.vinitaly.com of the reserved areas in both fields. That was alongside the initiative successfully launched in 2007 and named Taste Italy. It enabled the best Italian companies to present their “top products” and “new products” of the year, through an innovative dispenser system, to 5,000 international professionals and the trade press selected by Vinitaly.
The blend of glamour and business is also promoted in all the prestigious tastings that for years have characterized the period of the event, from Tasting Ex...Press, a tour of the world and international wines through guided tastings with impressive technical and cultural content, to Taste and Dream; with major “verticals” of selected Italian wines focusing on excellence, through to Trendy Today, Big Tomorrow presenting the top emerging Italian companies, and Grappa & C. Tasting, which in turn is associated with the Vinitaly Grappa Tasting Award. Lastly, the exhibition combines fascination and social life with Vinitaly for You, the after-exhibition event dedicated to all wine enthusiasts. The program is held in Palazzo della Gran Guardia, in the historic heart of Verona. “The role of the exhibition in providing support for internationalization is acknowledged by the institutions,” said Luigi Castelletti, President of VeronaFiere, “but it is especially recognized by companies.
